TACTICAL PRINCIPLECreate Gaps and Skip Lines

TECHNICAL SUB-PRINCIPLES (Coaching Points)

  • Create gaps by switching the ball & OPENING UP(WIDTH)
  • Pressure on the ball, midfielders showing to support(drawing defenders to play behind them first or combine with short-short(layoff) & then long: SKIP LINES & find FWDs)
  • Mids spin out & look to support if lines are skipped
  • NO pressure on the ball, midfielders moving away to find gaps
  • Complimentary movement of Mids off the ball(don’t have 2 players showing into same space)
  • MFs SCANNING to find gaps(space) and move into it to be an option
  • Receive with open body shape to play forward
  • Playing into MFs “front” foot to encourage them to play fwd
